Gbenga Arokoyo:
The Nigeria defender still had two years left on his contract with Gaziantepspor when he left the club earlier this summer, but opted to sever ties with the Turkish outfit after going six months without being paid his wages. The former youth international is still a work in progress, but has been linked with a return to Swedish football and Allsvenskan outfit Kalmar FF.
John Chibuike:
It’s little surprise that—after a string of inventive performances in Turkey—there’s been considerable Super Lig interest in Chibuike since he left Gaziantepspor. The attacking midfielder appears close to a move to Bursaspor, but both Kayserispor and Akhisar Belediyespor have both been named in relation to the player’s future.
Michael Eneramo:
Another Nigerian player currently without a club is powerful forward Eneramo, who has come to the end of his contract with Sivasspor. Now 30, it is surely too late for the former Esperance hitman to build on his 11 Super Eagles caps, but if he can overcome his injury concerns, he could yet find another suitor in the super league.
Nathan Delfouneso: 
The Anglo-Nigerian frontman was once the jewel in the crown of the Aston Villa academy, but despite his explosive speed and intelligent movement, he never made the grade. Injuries halted his progress and he is a free agent after spells with Blackpool, Coventry City, Blackburn Rovers and Bury. Port Vale have been linked to the attacker’s signature.
Kalu Uche:
The 33-year-old forward may be edging towards the end of his career, but his nomadic adventures surely have a chapter or two left to run! The attacker has featured for 12 different clubs across the globe, and is on the market once again after ending his second stint at Almeria. He has a proven track record of helping Spanish clubs in trouble, so there may yet be interest from La Liga.
Chinedu Obasi:
Like some of the other players on this list, Obasi finds himself a free agent largely because injuries have ravaged the last few stages of his career. With Schalke, he managed just two Bundesliga starts in the 2012-13 season, seven in 2013-14, one in 2014-15 and zero last year. It’s a catastrophic return for a player who once promised so much with Hoffenheim and the Super Eagles. After reportedly walking out on Norwegian club Lillestrom, Obasi was understood to be close to signing with Swedish heavyweights AIK, although the Allsvenskan outfit must manage his fitness very carefully!
Onyekachi Apam:
Truly a forgotten figure, Apam has been without a club since leaving Seattle Sounders in December 2014. Once a promising, versatile defender—and a Nigeria international no less—Apam’s fortunes were derailed after a series of debilitating injuries. Still only 29, the former OGC Nice stopper may yet offer something if he can overcome his fitness nightmare.
Peter Odemwingie:
The veteran frontman offers buckets of EPL experience and appeared to be destined for a return to the top flight with Hull City. However, the departure of coach Steve Bruce threatens the 35-year-old’s switch to the KCOM Stadium. The former West Bromwich Albion attacker should have some options in the Championship, having impressed during a brief spell with Bristol City last term.
Yakubu Aiyegbeni:
Available after his time at Kayserispor came to an end, Yakubu will surely not want to lay down his boots after an underwhelming spell in Turkey—with the only club for whom he’s failed to score in almost 20 years! The attacker has featured for clubs in Israel, Portugal, China and Qatar, but enjoyed his greatest success in England and will surely tempt a Championship side or two. He featured against former club Reading in an offseason friendly for Boreham Wood, but the National League team’s coach has admitted he isn’t expecting to secure a permanent deal.
Victor Anichebe:
Despite putting the worst of his injury concerns behind him, Anichebe featured just 10 times for West Bromwich Albion in the league last term and never truly appeared to have the trust of manager Tony Pulis. He shone against Birmingham in the FA Cup in January 2015, scoring twice, but has done precious little since and hasn’t earned a new deal. Still only 28, he would suit a relegation-threatened Premier League side or a top-half Championship outfit.
