Mrs Mawuena Adzo Trebarh, CEO OF GIPC
Mawuena Adzo Trebarh has changed the face of investment promotion in Ghana and injected a new meaning into the business of seeking foreign direct investment and showcasing the best of Ghana locally and on international platforms.
Being the first female CEO of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), an institution charged with the facilitation and promotion of investments in all sectors of the Ghanaian economy, she understands the critical nature of her role and continuously raises the bar for performance in this area.
Prior to being appointed the CEO of GIPC in February 2013, she was the Founding Director and Chief Business Strategist of Inspire Africa Consult Ltd a business strategy-consulting firm. She has also worked in top management positions for multinational companies such as MTN as the Corporate Services Executive and Newmont Ghana as Manager for Communications, where she was the first female underground geologist.
Under her leadership, the Centre has realized increased visibility and participation on the local front. Her cultivated skills honed during her various interactions with the private sector, have contributed to the creation of GIPC’s enhanced image, improved work culture and better relations with stakeholders. She has championed the showcasing of Ghana in unique ways to attract foreign direct investment with evidence of efforts visible in the increased number of visiting delegations and project interest.
Several initiatives under her leadership, like the ‘Think Ghana, Make it Happen’ campaign, Womens Caucus Project Brochure, GIPC CEOs Breakfast Meetings and the ‘Taste and See Ghana Experience’ have brought recognition to the Centre. One of them being the ‘Best Investment Promotion Agency in West and Central Africa’ awarded at the Annual Investment Meeting 2016 in Dubai.
Mawuena’s over twenty years in Corporate Ghana has allowed her to contribute immensely to several companies operating in sectors such as telecommunications, marketing and brand management, strategic planning and communications, international business and project management.
She lives by two guiding principles – “If you want to succeed, be open minded” and “Service to man must always be seen as service to God”. These principles have been her mantra for success as she is currently recognized as an active role model for women in business and youth development winning several national and international awards in the process. These include the Millennium Leadership Forum Award for championing excellence in trade investment and agro-processing, the National Youth Role Model Award for being a role model and youth leader, Female Entrepreneur Award by National Women Entrepreneurial Challenge Conference being the most recent in 2015.
Mrs. Trebarh holds an MBA in Strategic Planning from Bentley College’s – McCallum Graduate School of Business in the USA.
