Today’s wedding took place in Stockholm, Sweden and is the perfect mix of traditional chic. There’s plenty to love about this wedding, which is also featured in the current FW14 issue. Some of our favorites are Laraba’s classic Pronovias gown and those perfectly pink peonies. Thanks to 2brides Photography for the fabulous imagery!
Laraba and Frederik have a love affair that spans continents. Laraba is from Nigeria; Frederik is from Sweden, and they met in Hungary after their second year in medical school! Once they were introduced by mutual friends, they started a romance that flourished over seven years.
When Frederik asked Laraba to eat out one Monday night, she suspected that he was going to propose. She patted him down before they left, but she did not feel a ring. When they got to their destination, there was no restaurant. Frederik had taken her to a beautiful spot overlooking the Old City in Stockholm. Laraba was taken aback by the beautiful scenery, but wondered where the restaurant was. When she turned around, Frederik was on one knee!
They got married a year later and celebrated their union with two ceremonies: a traditional ceremony in Nigeria and a church wedding in Stockholm. The Nigerian ceremony came first in April, and a couple of months later, guests traveled to Stockholm for a their beautiful church ceremony in St.Peter at St. Sigfrids Church.
They kept their color palette light, with Laraba and her bridesmaids all wearing stunning ivory gowns and carrying beautiful blush bouquets. To accommodate both sides of their family, Frederik and Laraba recited their vows in both English and Swedish and the Bible readings were also done in both languages. After the ceremony, guests were treated to a boat ride through Stockholm city to the reception venue. Dinner was cooked by a Swedish star chef Marcus Aujalay and was followed by dancing until the wee hours of the morning.
Laraba and Frederik’s union was a gorgeous blending of culture and family, further proving that love can transcend geographical boundaries.
